Inside the Medical Training of Dr. Andrew Jacono
Becoming a top facial plastic surgeon takes years of layered preparation, and the résumé of Dr. Andrew Jacono shows how each stage can build on the last. A January 2026 profile traces his steps from medical school to international recognition.
Medical School and Residency
He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996. Next came a residency in Otolaryngology, the specialty covering the ear, nose, and throat, at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He rose to administrative chief resident, a leadership post within the program.
His specialized education continued with a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery accredited that program. Today he holds dual board certification.
From Student to Teacher
That foundation laid the groundwork for innovation. Early in the 2000s, Dr. Andrew Jacono created the Minimal Access Deep-Plane Extended (MADE) facelift. Instead of tightening skin alone, the method lifts skin, muscle, and fat together, yielding natural results that can last 12 to 15 years.
He has since returned to academia. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the same school where he trained, and Section Head of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at North Shore University Hospital. He also serves as Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, helping prepare future specialists.
His scholarship supports that teaching role. He has written more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, spoken at upwards of 100 international conferences, and published several books, including a 2021 textbook on extended deep-plane facelifting.
The motivation behind all of it reaches back to childhood, when he watched a classmate with a cleft lip find acceptance after surgery. The arc from student to instructor now gives Dr. Andrew Jacono a direct hand in shaping how new surgeons approach the face. Refer to this article for related information.
