Leen Kawas started her career as an intern at the State University of New York. She got this internship through the university she was attending at the time. Later on, after she graduated from that university, she decided to move to Belgrade and work on a business plan for a company called Dikomat. She joined BioTech in 1996 as a Senior Scientist, and in 1998 she was promoted to Director of Business Development and became its executive director in 2003.

Leen Kawas has received many awards, including the Outstanding Woman of the Year award by the Association for Women in Science in 2009. She also received the 2009 Women of Achievement award from the NY Governor’s Office. She was recently recognized as one of America’s Top 100 Leaders by the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. Furthermore, Kawas received the WHO Global Entrepreneurship Award in 2009.
Leen Kawas has achieved an incredible amount of success in a very male-dominated field. She accomplished this by doing something she loved to do while trying to improve the world around her.
