Alumnus Kelcy Warren’s Historic Donation to UTA Propels Resource and Energy Engineering Program

University of Texas at Arlington alumnus Kelcy Warren, executive chairman and chairman of the Board
of Directors of Energy Transfer LP, has made a transformative $12 million gift to his
alma mater. This generous philanthropic investment represents the largest
single donation ever received by UT Arlington. The funds will be directed
towards the development and advancement of the university’s resource and energy
engineering (REE) program, positioning UTA at the forefront of this rapidly growing field.

Warren’s generous gift will drive excellence in faculty recruitment and research within UTA’s
College of Engineering, particularly in the newly established REE bachelor’s
degree program. It will also create invaluable opportunities for students,
equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the REE industry and beyond.

Expressing his gratitude, Warren, a member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents
and a distinguished alumnus of UTA, said, “I am honored to give back to
the institution that has played such a pivotal role in advancing my educational
and professional journeys. Texas faces a critical need for highly skilled
graduates who can manage energy resources, and this innovative REE program will
help meet that demand.”

To recognize Warren’s exceptional generosity, UTA will name three endowed academic positions
in resource and energy engineering after him. Additionally, the donation will
fund state-of-the-art REE laboratory facilities, a career experience center,
and scholarships and fellowships for deserving students.

The Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource and Energy
Engineering will attract and retain a world-class faculty member to lead the
REE program, ensuring its ongoing success. Furthermore, the creation of two
Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships will further enhance the program’s
educational experience by attracting distinguished scholars to contribute their expertise.

UTA’s REE program, set to launch in the fall of 2023, will be the first of its kind in the United
States. It will equip students with the skills to design, develop, and evaluate
energy systems in areas such as generation, storage, conversion, and distribution.
The program will encompass both conventional and renewable energy sources,
providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

This historic donation from Kelcy Warren demonstrates his unwavering commitment to UTA and his dedication to supporting the
education of future generations of engineers. His vision and generosity will
undoubtedly play a pivotal role in establishing UTA as a national leader in the
resource and energy engineering field.

UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed her gratitude, stating, “A gift of this
magnitude will provide transformational support for resource and energy
engineering and establish UTA as a national leader in this increasingly
important industry.”

Kelcy Warren’s extraordinary gift will leave a lasting legacy at his alma mater, inspiring
generations of students to pursue careers in resource and energy engineering
and make significant contributions to the energy sector. UTA is deeply grateful
for his visionary philanthropy and the impact it will have on the university
and the community at large.

In conclusion, Kelcy Warren’s historic donation to UTA will propel the resource and energy
engineering program to new heights, creating opportunities for excellence in
education, research, and industry engagement. It is a testament to Warren’s
commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers and his belief in the
power of education to shape a better future. Read this article for additional information.
