Alumnus Kelcy Warren’s Transformational Gift Propels UT Arlington Forward
In a groundbreaking move, Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer LP, Kelcy Warren, has made a historic $12 million
philanthropic investment to elevate the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA)
to new heights in the growing field of resource and energy engineering (REE).
This generous gift, the largest single philanthropic donation in UTA’s history,
will not only support faculty and research excellence but also empower students
to pursue educational and career opportunities in REE and beyond.
Kelcy Warren, an alumnus of UTA with a BS in Civil Engineering, recognizes the critical need for
highly skilled graduates who can effectively manage energy resources in Texas
and beyond. Through this transformative gift, Warren aims to address this
demand by fostering innovation and providing a platform for UTA to become a
national leader in the REE industry.
To honor Warren’s generosity, UTA will name three endowed REE academic positions, as well as REE
laboratory space, a career experience center, and scholarship/fellowship
recipients in his honor. The funding will also facilitate research experiences
for undergraduate engineering students.
The impact of this gift will be far-reaching. The Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource
and Energy Engineering will attract top-notch faculty to lead the program,
while the two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships will ensure the
retention of distinguished scholars who will enhance the educational experience
in REE. State-of-the-art laboratory space and equipment will provide faculty
and students with the resources needed to tackle today’s most pressing energy challenges.
Furthermore, the establishment of the Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center will provide
engineering undergraduates with valuable opportunities for experiential
learning, such as internships and co-ops, preparing them for success in the
industry. Warren Scholars, undergraduate students supported by scholarships,
and Warren Fellows, graduate students interested in energy industry careers,
will receive financial assistance to fulfill their educational goals.
The gift from Kelcy Warren represents a landmark moment for UTA. President Jennifer Cowley
expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the transformative nature of this
gift, emphasizing that it will establish UTA as a national leader in resource and energy engineering.
With the REE bachelor’s degree program set to launch in fall 2023, UTA will be the first university
in the United States to offer such a program. By combining engineering
principles with a focus on energy generation, storage, conversion, and
distribution systems, graduates will be well-equipped to address the challenges
of the ever-evolving energy landscape.
Kelcy Warren’s philanthropic vision will shape the future of UTA and leave a lasting legacy.
His commitment to the university spans over 25 years and has already resulted
in significant contributions. This latest gift is a testament to his dedication
to supporting education and empowering the next generation of engineering leaders.
UTA expresses deep gratitude to Regent Warren for his transformative gift, which will propel the
university forward and cement its position as a hub for excellence in resource
and energy engineering. Visit this page for more information.
