Artwork by Academy of Art University Alums and Current Students Exhibited at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco
The Academy of Art University showcases itself by representing the work of its students to several stakeholders. One of the latest examples is when it partnered with Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown. The hotel had agreed to work with and help local institutions and arts communities to support establishing a strong arts culture in the town.
The Hyatt hotel chain collaborated with the Academy of Art University to commission artwork from students in forms as diverse as sculpture, painting, and photography. Hyatt’s continued support for the arts inspired the show, which corresponded with the hotel’s rebranding and makeover.
Hotel guests could enjoy works by current students and recent graduates at the hotel’s ground-floor lobby, lounge, check-in, Regency club, and suites. The same attention to detail was given to the approximately 30,000 square feet comprising over 20 separate venues for gatherings, meetings, and private parties.
Academy of Art University was able to draw upon a wealth of in-house creative resources from throughout the university to furnish the several places that required unique artwork and design components. Fine art photographer alumna Dora Duan, master’s student Alana Burke Colville, professional photographer alumna Claire Nitchman, and visual artist alumna Tirda Aghakhani all contributed photographs, spanning from simple materials to the mixed media narrative.
As a whole, the new Hyatt hotel displays a wide variety of creative abilities and points of view that draw inspiration from San Francisco and the surrounding area. The artwork has been framed and mounted and can be seen hanging in the recently built hotel.
The institution has a long tradition of preparing artists, designers, and creatives for careers in their respective fields with a curriculum based on professional practices. Students have access to over 120 approved degree programs taught by industry experts.
