Health Carousel Supports the DAISY Awards in Cameroon
One of the ways that Health Carousel attempts to spread medical knowledge and care among those who would otherwise not be reached is by providing sustainable programs in Cameroon. One way it does this is by financially supporting the DAISY Awards, which provides healthcare-related training and volunteerism funding. Investing time and money into creating a sustainable healthcare system in Cameroon and other developing countries is essential.
The DAISY Awards help ensure that more people have access to basic healthcare training and supplies while easing the burden on local medical facilities. This article will discuss ways the DAISY Awards promote healthcare in Cameroon.
Fosters Innovation
In Cameroon, there are almost no doctors and nurses. Some of the few experts are working in rural areas where they have to travel daily to clinics that don’t have electricity. That’s where the health carousel comes into play. Health Carousel helps train people in various healthcare fields like nursing, midwifery and traditional medicine to become doctors or nurses. This is huge because it allows them to stay long enough in one place to make a difference.
The DAISY Awards create sustainable programs because the people who receive training continue to provide healthcare long after their training is complete, which means that their work impacts communities for years after their program ends.
Supports rural clinics
In communities with limited resources, such as Cameroon, it’s hard for healthcare practices to thrive. DAISY Awards has provided sustainable funding for healthcare programs in areas within and beyond the capitol.
These small clinics are staffed by volunteers and local employees who provide healthcare services and train their neighbors in proper hygiene and medical procedures. Claire O’Connell, a volunteer with DAISY Awards, said that “since we have partnered with the villagers on the concept of prevention of disease through hygiene, we have seen fewer cases of malaria and less mortality due to diarrhea amongst the pregnant women.
