Kelcy Warren

Kelcy Warren is the CEO of Energy Transfer, an American oil and gas corporation that deals in pipeline construction, transportation, and revenue. Kelcy has had a lengthy career in the petroleum industry. He started as an engineer with Exxon Corporation when he was only 20. After three years at Exxon, he joined General Electric Company, where he spent over 10 years before joining Enron Corporation in 2006, where he led them to profitability during his first year. During his tenure there, Enron declared bankruptcy less than a year later amid suspicions of accounting fraud and conspiracy against public trust.

Kelcy Warren decided to leave the corporate industry immediately after the Enron scandal as a constructive risk taker who wanted to take risks again working for himself. He did not anticipate building a new company but rather starting something independently. His parents owned a pipeline company, and he grew up around the industry. Kelcy is married to Gail Warren, and he has three children with her; Lindsey, Preston, and Meagan. His sons are actively involved in the energy sector, with Preston being an accountant for Energy Transfer and Meagan working for the marketing department.

The Kelcy Warren family traces their pipeline operation back to 1931 when Kelcy’s father-in-law, Ray Warren, and his business partner constructed a crude oil gathering pipeline in north Texas.

Kelcy Warren developed a vision for growth and kept acquiring legacy pipelines from Sunoco Pipelines in 1997 and 1998 that eventually became Energy Transfer Partners. The company expanded its operations by acquiring Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, which served the northeastern United States and the Southeast. He then acquired natural gas pipelines throughout the United States and Canada. In 2004, Energy Transfer Partners was listed on the NYSE. By 2009, Energy Transfer had acquired over 5,000 miles of pipeline capable of transporting over 13 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas.
