Raffaele Riva

Raffaele Riva is the founder and managing partner of the advisory firm The Bridge Group. He advises companies in their international growth strategies across the European Union, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA).

Raffaele Riva Most recently, he has been working with a major global oil and gas company on an unprecedented venture that will see it establish its regional headquarters in one of the MENA region’s most strategic emerging markets.

In the early 1990s, Raffaele Riva established a microfinance bank in Italy, where he had moved to start his family. In 1997 it soon became the largest microfinance bank in Europe and was recognized as one of the best practices by the World Bank. In 1999, after actively investing in SpA Banca Commercio e Industria it became the first in the country to be authorized by financial regulatory bodies to offer commercial banking services. The bank then merged with Banco di Chiavari e della Riviera Ligure (BCR) and became the first to be integrated into a European organization. The merger enhanced BCR’s position in the microfinance sector, largely strengthened by Raffaele’s presence on the Board of Directors. Over time he was elected to Chairman of the Executive Committee and Vice President of BCR, a public company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.

In 2003 Raffaele Riva initiated a project to set up a global private equity company based in Malta, where he moved to reside with his family. The company was established in 2003 and has since become one of the most significant players in the Maltese and international property sectors. In 2010 Raffaele was appointed as one of the three founding partners of a major venture capital firm to invest in emerging markets across Europe and the MENA region.

Raffaele is a member of the Board of Directors of International Forum Media Group, Telememo, Malta Stock Exchange, and Mollers Property Group. He has been active on other Boards, such as SpA Banca Popolare di Bergamo (BPER), where he was Vice Chairman and served as Chairman from 1995 to 2000; he was also Chairman for three years between 1997 and 1999.
