 RAINN Continues to Do Positive Work For America

RAINN is The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, a nonprofit anti-sexual assault organization and the largest anti-sexual assault organization in the United States. Its mission is to create an environment where victims of sexual assault can seek help while educating potential perpetrators with its “What is Consent” campaign. RAINN protects its visitors through live chat, which provides immediate assistance and links to agencies that offer essential support services. RAINN was founded in 1994 by three women members of President Clinton’s White House Task Force on Women.

Its mission is to provide a safe, anonymous, and confidential way to get information about sexual assault and its services. It creates an environment where victims of sexual assault can seek help while educating potential perpetrators with its “What is Consent” campaign. RAINN protects its visitors through live chat, which provides immediate assistance and links to agencies that offer essential support services. The goals of the RAINN are to prevent sexual assault, help victims and survivors, reduce the incidence of sexual assault, increase community response to sexual assault and provide support to individuals and families affected by this crime.

  1. How RAINN works

RAINN operates a National Sexual Assault Hotline in partnership with more than 1,100 local rape treatment hotlines and the Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office. The National Sexual Assault Hotline is operated out of RAINN’s office in Washington DC, by trained staff who answer calls and provide support to those who have been sexually assaulted or those who want to help someone.   1. Founders

Scott Berkowitz is the founder and president of RAINN, who is a survivor of sexual assault himself. He is a lawyer who works with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, and came up with the idea while watching a PBS show where victims were interviewed by phone. RAINN’s creators aimed to make an anonymous hotline where victims could seek help immediately rather than waiting for an agency to help them, which is when most people report it.

RAINN combines all the efforts from many agencies that protect its people who have been victims of these crimes. This organization could not have been possible without its founders and the work of others who shared their effort to make this organization possible for victims.
