Douthit explained what it was like growing up as a child in Toronto during the 1970s: It was an amazing time, and we were all very fortunate to be around such incredible creative people.” He also said that he loved watching SCTV, a Canadian sketch comedy program. There was a great deal of competition for jobs in the 1970s. Douthit became interested in journalism and television production because he found the market was not so competitive. Douthit became interested in starting his own production company in 1985.
