Sports Illustrated CEO Ross Levinsohn vision is to bring Sports Illustrated’s culture of journalistic excellence and storytelling to iconic brands that capture the meaning, power and excitement of sports.
Levinsohn has had an illustrious career spanning more than 30 years at some of the world’s top companies, including Yahoo!, Hollywood studio DreamWorks Animation and software giant Oracle Corporation. Levinsohn served as president and CEO from 2007-2012 for Yahoo!, Inc., managing a global workforce of 13,000 employees in 27 countries. Under his leadership, Yahoo! merged with Overture.com and its corporate parent, Yahoo! Inc., in a $1.1 billion transaction, enabling Levinsohn to lead the acquisition of GeoCities and in-house development of Yahoo! Search and incorporate other innovative products such as Yahoo! Sports.
Levinsohn has played an integral role in building All Access Media’s portfolio of premium sports brands. Under his leadership, All Access launched the award-winning NFL Game Day Pass, an online subscription service to watch a live game each week and All Access Pass to watch all NFL games in full.
Prior to Yahoo!, Levinsohn was the executive vice president and general manager at DreamWorks Animation SKG, leading the studio’s strategy from inception, developing significant successes including the box office hit Megamind, which raked in over $440 million worldwide. Prior to DreamWorks, Levinsohn was CEO of Marvel Entertainment, where he helped oversee the company’s merger with Toy Biz and its IPO on Wall Street in 1999.
Sports Illustrated CEO came to Marvel as a board director from Oracle, where he served as senior vice president of worldwide product management from 1998-2002. He managed worldwide sales and marketing for Oracle Corporation’s enterprise software business beginning in July 1995, with responsibility for a $4 billion revenue business. Prior to that, he was vice president of sales and marketing for Oracle Corporation’s consumer software business from 1993-95.
