Sudhir Choudhrie: Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Vintage Car Enthusiast
Sudhir Choudhrie is known for his business ventures, philanthropic endeavors, and health problems, but what about his passion for vintage cars? Choudhrie spends most of his time in London now, but he was born and raised in India. Choudhrie is familiar with The Goodwood Rival, one of the world’s largest motorsport events. The three-day event celebrates post-war racing, romance, and carefree days.
Choudhrie understands why people enjoy the event, but his love for cars is rooted in the pre-war years. He built his car collection around cars made before December 1939. Choudhrie’s first vintage car was a Mercedes convertible built in 1938. The car was in horrible condition, but Sudhir Choudhrie did not care. He also did not know the car was custom-built. He bought his first vintage Rolls Royce for a couple of thousand, but now it is worth over $250,000. The money is not the real reason he collects and restores the cars.
Just like most little boys, Choudhrie loved to play with cars. His first car collection comprised Matchbox cars. While he was a college student, he would take time off from his studies to attend rallies. However, after he was married, he would race in the rallies alongside his wife, Anita. They were a winning team. His love for cars is a big part of who he is.
It is not only about buying vintage cars but the project of restoring the cars to their authentic self that Choudhrie enjoys. It has taken a decade to restore some of the cars to their original. Finding the parts can be challenging. Sudhir Choudhrie keeps his collection in India and has hired a team of mechanics to work on them. His goal is to have a museum to showcase his cars so other people can enjoy them too.
