Kelcy Warren’s Transformational Gift to UTA Sets New Record
In a historic move, Kelcy Warren, an esteemed alumnus of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), has made an extraordinary $12 million
philanthropic investment, marking the largest single donation in the
university’s history. This generous gift will significantly elevate UTA’s
prominence in the rapidly expanding field of resource and energy engineering (REE).
Kelcy Warren, who currently serves as the executive chairman and
chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer LP, recognizes the
critical need for highly skilled graduates who can effectively manage energy
resources in Texas. As a proud UTA alumnus himself, he is committed to giving
back to the institution that played a pivotal role in shaping his educational and professional journey.
The funds from Warren’s gift will primarily support faculty excellence and research
initiatives within the College of Engineering’s newly established REE
bachelor’s degree program. By attracting top-tier faculty members and providing
state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and equipment, UTA aims to empower
students to tackle the pressing challenges facing the energy industry today.
To honor Kelcy Warren’s remarkable contribution, UTA will name three endowed academic
positions, REE laboratory space, a career experience center, and
scholarship/fellowship recipients in his name. These resources will provide
invaluable opportunities for students to gain practical experience, pursue
advanced research, and receive financial support to further their educational goals.
The REE bachelor’s degree program, set to launch in fall 2023, will distinguish UTA as the first
university in the United States to offer this specialized curriculum. It will
equip students with the necessary engineering principles to address energy generation,
storage, conversion, and distribution systems. The program’s comprehensive
approach will ensure graduates possess both technical expertise and a deep
understanding of business interests, making them highly sought-after
professionals in the energy industry.
UTA’s President, Jennifer Cowley, expressed her gratitude for Warren’s transformative gift,
emphasizing its potential to establish UTA as a national leader in the field of
resource and energy engineering. Chancellor James B. Milliken of The University
of Texas System also commended Warren’s commitment to the future of Texas and
the students who will benefit from his generous support.
Kelcy Warren’s exceptional philanthropic vision will forever impact UTA and leave a lasting
legacy on his alma mater. His investment will shape the future of resource and
energy engineering education, ensuring a skilled workforce capable of driving
