About Richard Liu, The Founder Of JD.com

JD.com is a Chinese retail site specializing in electronics, but it has branched out to include more general items. It is among the biggest businesses in its industry value on the ASX stock exchange.

JD invests heavily in solar power and cleaner transportation systems to reduce its environmental impact. Its founder Richard Liu Qiangdong is also the CEO of JD and arguably its most recognizable face.

From an early age, Richard Liu had a passion for technology. He studied computer science at Peking University and achieved notoriety as a student activist. During his time there, he was involved in the New Century Forum, which advocated for greater transparency in government policy-making and free speech among students across China. During this time, he became acquainted with many student leaders and even joined the Communist Party.

Following graduation, Liu Qiangdong worked for a small internet development firm but quickly moved on to found his own company in 1998. The name JD came from what Liu wanted it to be: “a shameless copy of another company.” The company’s first site allowed customers to make online purchases through a messaging service similar to what one might see on AOL or Yahoo instant messenger. On its debut, the site had only 42 products available for purchase.

With JD’s initial success, Qiangdong took a bold step and purchased a failing brick-and-mortar electronics store in Beijing. The store was already failing under management, so Liu didn’t think it would be too risky. It turned out to be highly successful.

Richard has managed to accrue a few important accolades over the years Richard Liu has been featured as an Honoree in Variety 500 website entitled, “JD.com Richard Liu; Founder / Chairman / CEO”, as a result of his persistence, innovation, and hard work.

Liu’s success can be attributed to his relentless pursuit of perfection. During product development, he repeatedly sends his engineers back to the drawing board until the product is up to his standards. This perfectionism has also made JD a top-rated company among those looking for quality products at a low price. Refer to this page for more information.
