OUTSTANDING WORK OF ALLIANCE DEFENDING FREEDOM
Alliance Defending Freedom was established in 1994 as Alliance Defense Fund, by part of the authority community of the Christian community. Despite being Christian-founded, the organization has not discriminated against defending individuals of other religions, including Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Muslims. This organization was founded on the belief that religious freedom was a basic right of every individual, hence aiming their work to ensure that this is maintained.
As part of their work, Alliance Defending Freedom has represented different students with different issues, including conservative, pro-conservationist, and libertarian. Some of the projects conducted outside the United States include the fight against genocide, Yazidis and Shia Muslims.
When asked about the main reason for founding this company, they stated that for the longest time, the United States was only keen on protecting minority religious groups. With time, they realized that even the majority groups needed help at certain levels. They gave the example of the institution of marriage, which has been put under a microscope in the United States.
The organization clearly states that they believe in marriage between opposite genders and that, lucky enough, they had the support of other strong organizations and the judicial system. The Alliance Defending Freedom states that they recognize that there may be individuals with contradicting opinions from theirs, and they state that they are in full support of that as each individual has the right to express themselves and their opinions in society as long as it does not negatively impact the others or involve force.
Other than defending and fighting for people’s rights, Alliance Defending Freedom also actively engages the government in its work to ensure that the government does not discriminate or become hostile to individuals of certain religious affiliations.
